The Drop List

The “drop list” shows domain names that have passed through the expiry process in the Domain Name Registry System and are eligible to be purged. Generally, these domain names can’t be recovered and will purge at the next cycle, at which point they become available to the public to register again. Officially, “this occurs no earlier than the date and eligible purge time (1:30pm AEST) listed in the report”.

The drop list is visible on Dimpl and updates every hour. This includes domains that are in “pdelete” (Policy Delete) and “cdelete” (Client Delete) status, which will also purge.

Typically, the drop list will show between 2,000 and 6,000 domain names, depending on how soon it is after the last purge. That’s a lot of domains!

Domains on the drop list include a “Dropping after” value (the Eligible Purge Time for this domain), as highlighted in the image below:

In the example shown, the domain is scheduled to become available some time after 1:30pm on 7th May 2025 (the next purge after the Eligible Purge Time).

To keep track of any domains in the drop list that you might be interested in registering, hit the tracked status badge on the domain view page, or the tracking star on the domain table row to add the domain to your list of tracked domains.
